Giveaway Night: November 10 vs. Montreal
In a decisive 8-0 victory over the
Minnesota North Stars at the Met Center, the Penguins captured their
first Stanley Cup.
Mario Lemieux has a goal and three assists and Joe Mullen notches two
goals, while Barrasso stops 39 shots to post the shutout.
The Penguins claim the series four games to two.

Giveaway Night: December 8 vs. Minnesota
In one of the greatest nights in
the history of Pittsburgh sports, Mario Lemieux emerges from retirement
in dramatic fashion.
After a 3 ½ year hiatus Mario’s one goal and two assist
performance in a 5-0 win over the Maple Leaf’s made this a night
never to be forgotten. It was Lemieux’s first game action since
retiring after the 1996-97 season and Mellon Arena was electric.

The Penguins defeat the Flyers 10 – 7 in this epic 1989 playoff
battle. Mario explodes tying NHL playoff records
with 5 goals and 8 points. Rob Brown adds two goals in this unforgettable
post-season classic
marking the Penguins first playoff berth since Lemieux’s arrival
in Pittsburgh.

April 9, 1993 – Pens Get 16th Consecutive Win
Giveaway Night: February 2 vs. Ottawa
Madison Square Garden set the stage for the Penguins NHL record 16th
consecutive win in 1993.
Continuing his remarkable scoring rampage after undergoing treatment
for cancer, Mario Lemieux erupts for five goals
as the Penguins blast the Rangers 10 – 4. New York City native
Joe Mullen added a hat trick for the Pens.
This winning streak would later extend to 17 games – a League
record that still stands.
The Penguins 1992-93 season was the best regular season record in team
history.

Six different players score and Ron Francis notches the game-winner

the 6 – 5 victory over the Blackhawks at Chicago Stadium.
The Penguins sweep the series in four games and Lemieux collects his
second straight Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP.
